How many calories should I be eating?
This is one of the most common questions that we get as personal trainers. Usually we have to explain how much your body's calorie requirement varies with age, activity level, body composition, etc. and then give an estimate. But now there is a better way. We use an indirect calorimeter to measure your energy consumption. This machine measures the carbon dioxide that you exhale which will calculate how much energy your body is using at rest. We offer a 30 minute consultation for $75 where we'll administer the test and talk to you about what the results mean.
Here are some things you can do to make sure your test is as accurate as possible:
Avoid eating for 4 hours prior to the test.
Avoid caffeine and other stimulates for 4 hours prior to the test.
Avoid activity that elevates your heart rate for 4 hours prior to the test.
Avoid strenuous activity for 12 hours prior to the test.
